Our Town Premiers in New Macrae Theater

The critically acclaimed and award-winning play Our Town, written by Thornton Wilder, premiered in the Macrae Theater in the new Hostetter Arts Center on Thursday, April 24, 2003. Directed by Drama Department Chair, Al Romano, the student production featured actors from the Upper School Drama IV class and several faculty and staff members as extras. This is the first time a production has been staged in the new wing. Additional performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, 2003. Tickets can be purchased at the box office on the night of each performance. With near-perfect acoustics and enhanced lighting, the student performers brought the mythical town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire to life. As the actors mimed the activities surrounding daily life, the sound system filled in the appropriate noises of milk bottles clanking against Mrs. Webb’s stone stoop and the milk cow pulling Howie Newsome’s squeaky wagon. Each scene was expertly played by student performers as the audience became involved in the lives and loves of each character.
